Billy Ray Cyrus has spoken for the first time about the controversial presentation of his daughter Miley at the Teen Choice Awards 2009, where she was held around a pipe (or tube) and many interpreted it as he did a pole dance.
The event was held on August 9, where Miley sang her hit, "Party In The USA", jumped on top of an ice cream and danced with a metal pole attached to the top of the cart. The aforementioned dance led to a lot of criticism on the Web.
When asked about the headlines that suggested the teenager's ball was a little little rise in tone for his age, Billy Ray said that Miley is concentrated only in "entertaining" people.
"You know, I think Miley likes to entertain people," Billy Ray told Access. "She loves to sing and write."
And although they might have taken exception to the controversial presentation of Miley, her father encouraged her to block the negative comments.
"I always say love what you do and stay focused for the love of art and not worry too much about the opinions of others," he added.
